How do I cite a dictionary entry in APA?

Answer

APA Style (7th ed.)

General Format:  WordEntry. (Year). In Dictionary name (edition). Place: Publisher or Retrieved from URL

Caronavirus. (n.d.) In Oxford English dictionary. Retrieved November 25, 2020, from https://www.oed.com/view/Entry/258346?redirectedFrom=caronavirus#eid

  • "When a stable or archived version of the work is cited . . . a retrieval date is not necessary" (American Psychological Association, 2020, p. 324).
  • In-text citation: ("Caronavirus", n.d.)
  • n.d. = no date - most online dictionaries and encyclopedias are continuously updated but use the year of the latest update date if there is one.

Entry with an author:

Lastname, F. (2020). Caronavirus. In Oxford English dictionary. Retrieved November 25, 2019, from https://www.oed.com/view/Entry/258346?redirectedFrom=emotional+intelligence#eid

  • In-text citation: (Lastname, 2020)
